These contributions support small-scale solar installations, each powering up to 20 homes. Together, we can improve safety, education, healthcare, and economic opportunities across multiple communities that have historically been left without stable power.
Frequently Asked Questions
Community RECs are certificates sourced from community-led renewable energy projects in rural or township areas. They carry the same certification value as standard RECs (one REC = one MWh), but purchasing them also directly supports the local communities behind the projects.
Fuel Switch's rural electrification donations fund small-scale solar installations across South Africa. Each is designed to power up to 20 homes. Organisations contribute through app.fuelswitch.io and receive impact documentation for ESG reporting.
Community REC purchases can contribute to Scope 2 reductions in the same way as standard RECs, provided they are retired through a recognised registry. Fuel Switch's carbon consulting team can advise on how to correctly account for these contributions.
