Fuel Switch is proud to be a part of this transformation as one of the winners of the prestigious Digital Energy Challenge by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) in the Startups category. This award is not only a recognition of our work but a testament to the boundless potential of digital solutions in reshaping the global energy landscape.
The Digital Energy Challenge awards were held in Brussels on 28th of November 2024. It is a flagship initiative launched by AFD to foster innovation in the energy sector across Africa. This program aims to accelerate the adoption of digital tools and technologies that enhance energy access, sustainability, and efficiency. The three categories which were the focus of the awards are resilience, grid management, and energy access. The Digital Energy Challenge was launched in 2021 by the Digital Energy Facility. Each year, it identifies and supports groundbreaking startups, utilities, and public organizations that demonstrate the potential to create significant social and environmental impact through digital energy solutions. With the Global Gateway Initiative aiming to recognise start-ups which contribute towards power systems decarbonisation, grid management, energy access and resilience. This year a total of eleven winners were selected by the AFD, with Fuel Switch being 1 of 3 projects selected, from South Africa.
This year, Fuel Switch’s innovative approach stood out among hundreds of submissions, earning us a spot as one of the winners in the startup category.
Fuel Switch was founded on the belief that the transition to cleaner, more efficient energy systems is not just a necessity but an opportunity to innovate. Our core mission is to revolutionize the way REC's ( renewable Energy certificates) are traded. REC's are ideal instruments to be utilised to broaden the participation in the Green Economy to those who need it most. We have utilised NFT ( non fungible token) and distributed ledger technologies ( Blockchain) to create valuable tradeable assets.
